Another Swim Story

This is the picture of the day because I can't very well take a picture of the class that I am busy assisting in can I?  Anyway, that is the lead instructor for the swim lesson class that I help with.  He's a good guy.

More Snow Please!

So it's been snowing again.  Just in case it isn't up to your hips.  (And that is in the flat sections)  It has gotten so bad that the Bureau of Land Management has closed almost the entire valley due to the high avalanche danger.

Today in class we were supposed to go to one of those areas.  Instead we ended up conducting beacon searches in the field next to the gym.  Todays class was a lot of fun.  We tried going off jumps in the cross-country skis (no easy feat) and even slid down the hill on our avalanche shovels.  Really responsible, eh?  Yup, we are a bunch of mostly graduating upper class-men.  Yet again, I am assured that my major area of study is awesome.

And that leads us to the picture of the day.
This hat is so awesome, I almost wish I had one.
The goggles can only add to the awesomeness.

You may now gaze in awe.

Other Class

The class before ours always has cool stuff on the board.
I kind of wish I was in that class.

I Almost Forgot

But I didn't.  Instead I took a picture of my workspace in the union.  Taa Daa.

Laundry Day

I call it "Traffic Jam"

Oh yeah, by the way.  People look at you funny when you take pictures in a Laundromat.  You should try it sometime.

Where for a movie?

First off... a picture of the day for you.

Today was a great adventure.  My friend Blake is very fond of driving and road trips.  He is also a fan of movies, and restaurants and shops that we don't have in Gunnison.  Occasionally this combines to a very exciting time hanging out with him.  Last year we took another friend and drove to Montrose to see Meet the Robinsons.  Well, it has been a while and with Juno out we thought that it would be fun to do it again. (2nd time I've seen it!)  The only catch was we weren't just going to Montrose (one and a half hours away) we were going to Grand Junction (2 & 1/2 hour trip).  It was so much fun.  We had dinner at Chipotle, went to Borders and Best Buy, then hit Dennys and Wal-Mart on the way home.   So much fun it was legendary.

My Foot Still Hurts...

...but that really isn't the point now is it?

Here's the picture of the day.  This is my favorite room in the library.  There is stunning molding on the ceiling that for a little while was covered up, but you really can't see it in this picture.  It is just a nice room.  Open, wireless internet, windows looking outside, places to charge your computer, quiet, it's just nice, ok?  I get the feeling that this semester I will be spending quite a bit of time in there.

In fact, for possibly the first time I ever, I actually took a step tonight in alleviating some pressure from my overcrowded schedule.  It was hard.  I had to tell 8 and 9 year olds that I wouldn't be teaching them (kind of) to swim any more.  I explained that I this is my last semester and I'm graduating soon and I was really busy.  One of the girls, I'll call her NL, asked when graduation was.  I told her it was in May and she said the funniest thing, she said...

"Well hey!  It's only January!  You have plenty of time!
(then counting on her fingers)
You have four months, you can teach us in that time."

It was cute.  Back off.

So Tired...

I'm tired.  Here is your photo for the day.

It's from one of my classes today.  I know, it's got to be really tough where one of your classes requires you to go cross-country skiing for a couple of hours.  It really did kind of hurt though.  Think I might have bruised my foot pretty bad or something.  Ah well.

Photo of the Day

Here is the photo of the day.  Looking out at the snow towards the library.

It's Cold Outside!

There is still a lot of snow.  Not a big surprise when considering that the high temp yesterday was 2 degrees above zero.  TWO.  Day off of class was kind of nice, wish I had gotten a nap in.  Now I just have to struggle through the last three hours of work.

Here is the 365 photo of the day.

I call it "Random Bike in the Snow".

More interesting than the pattern created by the spokes was the fact that there was no evidence of someone riding it, or pushing it, or being around it.

On Time Photo!

Whoo Hoo!  What up now?  A photo in on time, the world may explode.

Is it the worlds biggest pinecone or the worlds smallest deli?
In other news, it was a very tasty sandwich.

Late Photo

It's the weekend.  It's ok that the photo is late.  Right?
Quote from the day:

"You know you are from Colorado when you prefer to drive with ice on the ground because it means the potholes are filled in  - Guthrie

::You Don't Really Think It's Saturday:: [waving hand in jedi like fashion]

Sorry it's late.  Here is the 365 photo from yesterday.

I know it looks kind of crazy.  It's my first draft of my resume.  The nice career services person actually said that it is one of the best first resumes she has seen.  Still looks like a lot of red to me.

A Longing View

This is the view that I look at for several hours every Tuesday and Thursday.  I know it's really cold outside (-35 today!) but I just want to be out there.  Or anywhere.  Anywhere but this classroom where half the time I can think of no real contribution to the class, have a hard time following the conversation, and cannot finish an argument or point to a degree that the argument presents even a speed bump of challenge to overcome before being ripped apart.

Projects

Projects, projects, everywhere...

... hence the 365 photo of the day.  This picture was taken from a professors writing on the board.  I got completely distracted by the beauty of how it was written.  I almost took out my camera in the middle of class.  That would have been crazy.

Suckered Into Swimming

365 Photo for the Day-

It's kind of a crazy picture and no, the lotion is not the intended focus.  I couldn't move it because I don't want to stage my daily photo in any way.  This photo is from my other workplace, the front desk of the union.  This morning the union was bustling and it was nice to see so many friends again.

In other news, I think I just got talked into taking on another set of responsibilities.  I'm not to sure if I can keep them.  Tonight I assisted with the kids swim lessons.  It was a lot of fun.  It's definitely changed my mind about the 9 year-old age limit.  The kids I worked with tonight had to be between 5 and 8 years old.  We'll see.  I for sure have to go back to the pool to help on Thursday, I just can't tell a little girl no.  Besides, we are planning on diving and playing with rings.  Who doesn't love that?

It's Where I Sit

This photo is untouched.  I didn't set it up in any way.  I spend a lot of time in those chairs watching the "back and forth".  AKA: lap swimmers.

First day of class.  It was pretty fun.  Monday's I only work with one professor.  Super flexible, largely self-directed classes.  Could be really cool.  More to follow-probably.

Inspired

This was inspired by Amy, not an unusual event.

It is quite possible that you are asking yourself, "what is that thing?".  Well, I can't tell you.

It's a Top Secret story, available to very very few.  Let me tell you though, it was lots of fun.  This picture also happens to be my first picture for a project 365 thing that I just learned about.  Seems like fun.  Now, I could try to be all cool like Amy is, and establish an entirely different blog just for these pictures, (see it here) but I don't feel like it.  I think I'll just post them here.

Theoretically I might also want to try to set up guidelines for myself, but I don't really feel like I need it right now.  The guiding principles for this project?  (as of right now)
  • Take a picture everyday.
  • Post it here.
  • Optional - post a story/snippet about the picture.
That is all for now.  Thank you.

I Think It Touched My Brain!

Because this is simply too awesome to not share.

I Don't Remember

I don't remember my childhood.  Well, very little of it.  It's not usually a problem.  So what if I can't really participate in conversations about the 80's?  It's not like my memory is totally fine except for everything not in the past.  I must have my calendar on me at all times.  Very much a requirement for day-to-day living.  I'm horrible at names and birthdays.  There are people that I have met multiple times have breakfast with at least once every other week, and I have no idea what their names are.  I don't remember growing up.

Who am I kidding.  I don't really remember.

So why is this bothering me tonight?

I'm working on this paper, my final incomplete and it's about me growing up, how my development mirrored and can be explained within Erickson's theory of psychosocial development.  I called my parents tonight and had to ask them to tell me about my childhood.  How the heck to you explain that?  Poor dad.  He was so perplexed.  It's a hard thing to explain, although the words to say are very simple.  It goes something like this...

Me:  Hi Dad!  I was wondering if you can help me with a paper.

Dad:  Sure, I'll try.

Me:  I've got three different ages that I am going to ask you about.  Please tell me about me during that time.  What I did, funny stories, anything you can.

Dad:  You want me... to tell you... about you....?

Me:  Yup, thats pretty much it.
